Clarity on Breast Cancer Charity

To our kind supporters,

You may have recently heard reports in the media about an unregistered breast cancer charity seeking donations from the community with little evidence of where those funds are being directed. This is both disappointing and concerning.

While we are unable to comment on the media reports or the entity concerned, we would like to take this opportunity to reassure you, our supporter community, of our ongoing commitment to ensure openness and transparency in all areas of our operations.

Supported by ABCR, A/Prof Wendy Ingman leads the Breast Biology and Cancer Unit at the Basil Hetzel Institute for Translational Health Research.

We share your vision for a world without breast cancer and value the trust you have in us as an organisation to direct your donations to support medical research focused on delivering better treatments and ultimately a cure for this disease. We hope you are proud to receive our regular communication about the dedicated breast cancer researchers who lead vital research projects that are underway as a direct result of your support.

For every $1 you donate, we provide over $4 in grants to lifesaving breast cancer research. This is because we are part of The Hospital Research Foundation (THRF) Group. Our administration costs are covered by THRF’s commercial business activities (such as its lottery program), which also boosts our funds to research and patient care each year. You can feel proud knowing your donation makes an even bigger impact to the health and wellbeing of your community.

ABCR is a Registered Charity listed with ACNC (Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission). The Foundation is also a Public Benevolent Institution, a Tax Deductible Gift Recipient and has a Charitable Collections license.

To ensure our financial transparency we have elected to be a general reporting entity with the same financial reporting rigor required by a public company. Our audited financial statements are made public and can be viewed at http://www.hospitalresearch.com.au/about-us/financial-information/

We take this opportunity to thank you again for your valued trust and support. Should you have any concerns or queries regarding our operations or any other matter we would be delighted to hear from you at any time on (08) 8445 2453 or contactus@abcr.com.au
